AI learning assistant for courses, training and certification

nerilio answers questions about your course content, guides learners step by step and supports you in assessing their work – based on your own materials, GDPR-compliant and hosted in the EU. For e-learning providers, academies, training organisations and corporate learning teams.

With your content, not ours

Test nerilio for free with your course material

A demo with someone else's examples tells you little about how nerilio works with your content. So we show it to you on your material – an excerpt is enough.

What we need

  • A chapter, a script or a slide deck from a running course
  • A question your participants typically ask
  • If you want to extend your exams: one exam question with your marking scheme

Why learner support rarely scales

Support ends when the course does

Learners are left alone with their questions as soon as the trainer is offline. Those who cannot ask drop out or learn the wrong thing – completion rates suffer, not the material.

Content is static

PDFs, videos and slide decks explain the same thing to everyone at the same pace. Anyone who needs a different explanation will not find one – and anyone who is faster gets bored.

Assessment costs people time

Multiple choice can be automated, free text so far cannot. The very answers that show whether someone has understood have to be read and graded by a human.

Three ways of working – shown on one course

You decide per bot which role it takes. The knowledge base stays the same. Here all three on the same course unit: writing learning objectives.

Answering questions

Learners ask in their own words and get answers exclusively from your materials, optionally with a source reference to the course unit. No invented knowledge, no answers from outside the course.

  • Answer with a source in the course
  • Related questions as quick replies
  • Asks back when a question is unclear
nerilio · Q&A
  1. What makes a good learning objective?
  2. A good learning objective describes what participants can do at the end – not what the course covers. It names an observable action, the situation in which it is shown, and fits the course's exercises and assessment.

Sources can be scripts, slide decks, manuals – and just as well training videos and transcripts.

The difference

Evaluating free text – not just ticking boxes

Most learning bots can answer questions. When it comes to assessing work, they are no help at all. That is exactly where nerilio supports you: targeted questions on your content, free answers in the learner's own words, a traceable evaluation against your marking scheme and a proposed score. Feedback comes either immediately after each question or collected at the end, and retries can be allowed or ruled out. Responsibility for the result stays with you – nerilio prepares the decision, it does not make it.

In practice

Trainer certification for an international provider

An international provider of trainer certifications extends its final exam with nerilio: module by module, with free-text answers, marks per question and a pass mark of 80 percent. At the end there is an evaluation organised by topic, for which the provider is responsible. The exam can be paused and resumed later.

Examiners receive the evaluation prepared in advance – around the clock, in every time zone, without scheduling. The grading stays with them.

How your learning assistant comes together

  1. 1

    Upload content

Scripts, slide decks, manuals, videos and transcripts – as files or straight from Moodle or ILIAS. Your course doesn't need to be restructured.

  2. 2

    Choose the way of working

Per bot you pick Q&A, tutor or assessment. In tutor mode you set level, pace and method; in assessment question types, number, difficulty and your marking scheme.

  3. 3

Switch it on in the course

As a widget in your LMS, on the course page or as a separate exam page with its own link. With login or SSO if you like.

A first assistant with your materials is ready in minutes. We set up tutor and assessment together with you – from the first conversation to productive use usually takes less than a week.

Who nerilio is built for in education

What nerilio is not meant for

Not a replacement for your LMS

Courses, enrolments and certificates stay in your learning management system. nerilio sits inside it and handles asking, practising and assessing.

No grading without people

Assessment mode evaluates and proposes. You decide on results, passing and certificates.

Not a replacement for your trainers

nerilio accompanies learners between sessions and after the course. The relationship with your participants stays with you.

Where your learners already are

Inside your LMS

Integration with existing learning platforms such as Moodle or ILIAS – the assistant sits inside the course, not on a separate page.

On the course page

A single script tag is enough, the chat widget renders itself. No rebuild of your platform, no build step.

As a standalone exam page

Assessments also run as a separate page with their own link – useful if you want to extend a certification exam independently of the course system.

With your branding

Logo, name and colours are configurable, and fully under your own domain on request.

Learning data stays learning data

Learners reveal more about themselves in an assistant than in any test: what they do not understand, how often they ask again, where they fail. That is why nerilio processes exclusively on EU servers, trains no models with your content or your learners' input, and answers only from the knowledge base you release.

  • Hosting and processing in the EU
  • No training with your data or your learners' input
  • Answers exclusively from your released content

Regulatory context

AI-based exams and the AI Act

Exams decide about qualifications, certificates and careers. The AI Act therefore treats them as particularly sensitive in education and sets requirements for everyone who assesses learners with AI support. We address that openly rather than working around the question.

Why exams are treated differently

Assessing someone's performance goes deeper than answering a question: it can decide on admission, certification and career. That is why the AI Act calls for traceability instead of a black box, oversight by people, and protection against systematic disadvantage – for instance of learners not answering in their first language.

What that means for you as the deployer

You decide on results, not the assistant. That includes appropriately qualified people who can review and correct an evaluation, informing the people being assessed, traceable logs and – for public bodies – a fundamental rights impact assessment. How far the requirements reach in detail depends on how you design your exam.

How we build nerilio

We develop nerilio along these requirements: traceable evaluation instead of opaque grading, human final decision as a founding principle, processing in the EU, no training with your data. The AI disclosure required by Article 50 is in place, and we are preparing for the obligations that apply to assessment systems from December 2027.

We work out the details together

No two exam scenarios are alike. We look at your specific case with you in advance, classify it and record who takes on which role. We are available for questions about it – including before you decide on nerilio.

This is not legal advice. It is meant to spare you the question of whether you need any.
